We recently surveyed event staffing companies from across the US in order to examine the operational strategies and workforce best practices in the industry tied to hiring, managing, and retaining both a shift and project-based event staff.
Here is a snapshot of the results:
The industry’s top challenges are: increasing their talent pool & using a manual process to fill shifts.
Multiple methods are used for determining staff availability, the most common of which is labor-intensive calls, texts, and emails.
Most staffing companies use some kind of automated time system for tracking staff hours worked, however 19% still use a pen/paper and excel.
Staffing companies use several methods for obtaining new applicants, the company website being the most common. “Other” includes social media and job boards.
Referral fees, if any, vary greatly by company.
Half of companies are not consistently able to see staff availability at a quick glance.
Only 37% of companies are able to see the true labor costs and/or if a staff member is heading into overtime.
Staff performance is mainly tracked by internal staff. Clients also provide performance feedback.
The staffing industry hires primarily part-time W-2 employees.
