Did you know that on May 24th, 2017, Nevada’s Governor approved a bill that completely changed the event production industry for the city of Las Vegas? Well, as it turns out, event production professionals in Nevada are now REQUIRED to obtain safety education in order to be granted employment. To keep you in the “know” about Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training, here are five frequently asked questions that might help you navigate this new compliance wave.
1. What is an OSHA Card/Certification?
An OSHA card or certification is your way of proving that you have completed an OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour outreach training program through an OSHA-authorized outreach training provider.
2. Who does this new Nevada OSHA training requirement affect?
Workers whose primary occupation site includes one of the following categories:
- Wardrobe, makeup, or hair
- Projection, video, camera, audio, or other lighting equipment
- Rigging, props, or theatrical scener
With the production or presentation of:
- Sporting events, Live entertainment, Theatrical performances, Photography or film-making, Television programs, etc
3. How do I select an OSHA Training Provider?
Although in-person instruction is available to you, an online course is the most time and cost effective avenue, especially for event professionals with hefty work schedules. Once you successfully completed the OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour training program, you will receive your corresponding Department of Labor/OSHA card. 4. When do I need to take this OSHA training course?
From January 1st, 2018 onwards, employees will have to complete this course within 15 days of employment. This certification is valid for five years after which point a renewal will be required. For your convenience, these courses can be taken online and your certification will apply in other states.
5. How long is my OSHA certification valid for?
Under the new Nevada Assembly Bill 190, certification will be valid for 5-years. After five years, employees will be required to renew their OSHA certification.
