One of our customers recently asked us, “How do others in the event industry rate the performance of their people?” Well, we wanted to hear what the industry had to say, so we sent out a quick one-question poll to leading companies in the event space.
And…the results are in! See below:
The #1 metric used to rate crew or staff performance is… quality of work! However, what’s clear from the results is that event companies use a combination of factors in their event staff management and performance rating processes. Attention to detail, skill set and punctuality all received 70%+ percent of the response with other areas not far behind. Evidently, most event companies use a mixture of metrics for rating their people.
Some of the “other” responses are worth noting as well. A few interesting responses include:
- Attitude & ability to work well with others
- Being proactive and taking initiative
- Lifetime commitment to continuous learning
- Innovation & creativity
- Adaptability to change
Do you rate your crew differently from these survey results? Shoot us a note and let us know what other metrics are important for you.
Ok, now we know how the industry rates performance…so, how do they track these performance ratings? The simple answer most of the time is…manually.
Capturing performance feedback in a variety of different ways, for a variety of different positions, and from a variety of different people and being able to use these ratings in a meaningful way when crewing a job is incredibly valuable. When performance ratings are tracked primarily by word of mouth or through an excel spreadsheet, many important observations can easily be lost in translation – or simply lost. More importantly, when people work hard for you, you want to do right by them. One way of doing this is by making sure they get invited back to any future job opportunities.
